Beth has been an ambassador for Diabetes UK Cymru since 2015 when she tragically lost her 13 year old son Peter to undiagnosed Type 1 Diabetes. No family history, no obvious warning signs, there is no way of preventing the onset of Type 1, the aim is prompt diagnosis to prevent death at diagnosis.
Beth has spent the last 9 years tirelessly campaigning for greater awareness and policy change. Together with an army of family, friends, colleagues and the community she’s led the way and raised over £100,000 and saved 12 children’s lives through the awareness campaign that is Peter’s legacy.
She won the Pride of Britain award for Fundraising in Wales, The Just Giving Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year Award, The Welsh Charity awards for the campaign and multiple Diabetes UK national awards. Her campaign has changed policy here in Wales, she’s presented evidence to the Senedd and been mentioned in Parliament. Her mission is to make a difference in Peter’s name and prevent this tragedy happening to another family.
Beth has been the keynote speaker at many high profile events in prestigious venues across the UK. She’s spoken in front of thousands of people and collectively contributed to raising over £500,000.
Beth inspires many with her story of resilience, campaigning, policy change, engaging with government, making a difference and saving other children’s lives.
